Here I am with another very good business. I remember seeing this model some years ago, but it didn't last long. The ART series lasted longer, a guitar student of mine had one, then ARZ, etc., but I hadn't had any contact with this model until now. Short story, one of my wife's cousin decided to get back to playing guitar now, 2 years after he asked me to sell his Epiphone G400 Korina on internet, which I did, and wants a good guitar, cheap, bla, bla, bla. I asked him if he had any idea on shape, model, brand, but no. So coming from an ex-Epiphone owner, I've decided to search mainly for a guitar without tremolo, basic functions, 2 humbucker and 3-way switch, and features he was already (kind of) used to. A few ART models showed up after my research, some SA models too just in case he prefer a HSS configuration, and this DN300. Went to read about it, see some videos, and finally bought it without letting him know because there's a crack on the neck "joint" area. The price was nice, but I wanted to make sure it was just the finish before talking to Yves. It arrived in a very nice gigbag, I took about one hour to prepare it and setting it up to my taste, examine the crack, and thank God it's the finish only. Opened the truss rod cavity, set the neck completely straight, lowered the strings, then gave it a very, very slight curb because the frets were buzzing by the 8th and 9th fret, a slight fret level on the highest frets followed by a quick polish like I've learned on a YouTube Stew Mac story I saw these last week's, and it was VERY nice. Applied some fretboard oil from Dunlop, dusted the whole guitar with my special 1 Euro brush, played it for about 2 hours.

What would I swap if I kept it? I bet you're thinking of the pickups! Well, the intention was to have them swapped by a DiMarzio/IBZ bridge and a PAF Joe I have around for the neck position. But I was very surprised by these ACH pickups. I don't know if they work on other guitars, but this DN300 has 3 very usable positions (I never use the middle positions on my Ibanez RGs, most times I use the 1st, 4th and 5th positions). I play on a Zoom G3 (which IMO has only 3 good amp sims) directly to a Harley Benton pedal amp and then on a 212 cab, and it sounds lovely, clean and gain. They're quite sensitive, they react well to volume changes, and speaking of that I have also applied a bit of WD40 on the knobs because the tone was a little bit scratchy. Overall, I wouldn't swap a thing for now; maybe the machine heads later, for some Sperzels or Gotoh. But not now.

As I recall the ART500 Custom, the set neck was quite high relatively to the body, which was quite bizarre, but the transition on this one is a lot better and natural. Awesome deal if you ask me! Finally I've sent 2 pictures and the specs to Yves and I felt he was more into a more vintage look. Then again he's a grandad, twice :)

Just in case you're wondering about the strings action: 1,5mm in the high E at the 22th fret, and 2mm (middle of the string) on the low E at the 22th fret too. Good enough for you?
